2024 Heo Eun-young Invitational

Heo Eun-young’s exhibition “Where do we come from?” is held at MetaCanvas Gallery in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, from May 10 to June 11, 2024.

In her early paintings, Heo explored the essential form of life and existence by combining the ecological image of the seed with formal techniques drawn from the materiality of hanji paper. She later used objects such as boxes and cups as metaphors to express human inner imagery related to emptying and filling, relationships, memory and healing. This developed into a distinctive composite style that combines three-dimensional space with flat painting, and has deepened through the From Inner Space series.

In particular, through recent work that uses the binary code of 0 and 1, the language of computers, and its concept, she continues to reflect on the relational existence of modern civilization and human beings.

Her body of work, built up through continuous exploration and change as an artist, holds within its outward diversity an expectation of empathy and recovery that goes beyond the existential pain of human beings.
