Artist’s Note

Flexibility held in solid conviction and the shade of nature

A work of art is the product of vital activity. To read the phenomenon of life contained in that product, one must endure the difficulty of approaching a solitary, fundamental phenomenon.

An artist devoted to nature art delves into a distinct material. Lee Jong-hyup links the seeping of water, the source of life, with the structural harmony of textile. Water, too, is the dominant element that makes up life.

Inspired by the poem “To the Primordial Matter” by the Mexican poet Luis de Sandoval Zapata, which appears in a book by Ivan Illich, the Austrian philosopher, Catholic priest and ecologist, the artist created Water That Became H2O.
