“Gyubang,” the living space reserved for women in the Joseon period, whose activities were restricted by strict Confucian thought. The series Out of the Women’s Quarters (Gyubang), which the artist has made since 2010, can be seen as a process of reading and exploring the mother’s heart through the embroidered motifs of the “wild goose wrapping cloth.” The artist says that reading our ancestors’ pictures and carrying them forward through a contemporary eye is the path of painting the artist wants to follow, and the way to achieve empathy with the world.
