ABOUT

Lee Heum graduated in Western painting from Sangmyung University and went on to study for a master’s degree in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts in London. Lee has recently taken part in group exhibitions such as those at the Jeju Museum of Art (2022) and Gallery BK (2022), and remains actively engaged in the practice. Lee’s works are held by the Seoul Museum of Art, the Daelim Museum, Yangpyeong County Art Museum, Francoise Livinec, Hoseo University, Parkview Terrace and others. Under the theme of the sweet, “Candy,” Lee displays a range of abilities from hyperrealism to abstraction and installation, and captivates audiences with a sensuous sweetness. With the wish to show the era we live in, Lee precisely presents gorgeous colors of every hue. Lee presents the boundary between merchandise seen through a shop window and art, and captures the materiality and immateriality of sweet things. The hyperrealist rendering of the smooth outlines of candy and the light reflected on the wrapping paper is all the more attractive when it meets sweet color. Lee’s obsession with and expression of the candy as an object remains, for the artist, the realization of sensation and, for the audience, the experience of sensation.
